Holy Orders

Monks have been involved in the brewing of beer since time immemorial. John Clarke talks guests through the history of brewing in monasteries by introducing you to six different beers, all brewed by the Trappist Order of monks in Belgium and the Netherlands.  Tastings of six exciting beers are included in the ticket price. Going Dutch – The Dutch Beer Revolution

It isn’t all Heineken. The renaissance of artisanal Dutch beer is not as well-known as it ought to be. John Clarke, an expert in the subject will bring you an insight into what is happening in the Netherlands as he discusses six craft brewed Dutch beers of varied and contrasting styles. Meet The Brewster – Waen Brewery

#MBCF17 commissioned Sue Hayward, brewster at the multi-award winning Waen Brewery to take her award winning beer Pamplemousse on tour, brewing it at four different breweries across the country – same recipe, different brewing kit and yeast.

Sue will be at #MBCF17 to talk you through the results of her labours including samples of each version. She will also talks about what made her give up her own brewery to become a cuckoo brewer. Includes 4 third pints of four versions of Pamplemouusse finishing on a high with a half of Waen’s chocolate, vanillas and coconut stout Snowball

The Great Manchester Beer Debate – The Changing Beer Scene

Come and have your say about beer in Manchester and beyond at this lively free event to held in the foyer of Manchester Central at 15.00 on Saturday 21st January.
Chaired by Festival Deputy Organiser and beer writer, Peter Alexander, this will give you a chance to ask our expert panel a question, so bring one along with you.
The subject of the debate will be loosely based around “The Changing Beer Scene” but as long as your question is beery and relevant, that’s just fine.

Tasting event tickets include the beer you will sample during your selected sessions (a minimum of 5 x 1/3 pints).

Note that tickets do not include festival entry which must be purchased separately.
