The Font has been a destination for beer and cider lovers in Chorlton for almost a decade. Its eight handpumps have made it a Good Beer Guide regular but it has also become renowned for the breadth and quality of its cider offering.
The Manchester Road bar offers a range of draught still and sparkling ciders as well as a selection of traditional ciders in bottle. It’s been named Trafford & Hulme CAMRA Cider Pub of Year no less than six times for its range of traditional ciders (after originally taking the title from its central Manchester sibling). Prior to the pandemic, it had been further enhancing its standing with cider lovers with a series of “Meet The Producer” events.
The bar is also known for its range of freshly cooked food from a menu which is regularly updated.
Until the current lockdown, the bar remained open offering table service, ‘substantial meals’ and, while permitted, click and collect food and drinks. While the Chorlton bar is currently closed, its Manchester sibling is offering food and drink deliveries via Deliveroo every Friday and Saturday.

The Joy and Diversity of Cider and Perry
Saturday 20th February (from 1pm)
Presented by The Font in association with The Cat In The Glass
Have you noticed the buzz building around cider and perry lately? Fancy seeing what the fuss is all about?
The Font invite you to their virtual pub for an introduction to the joy and diversity of the modern and traditional ciders and perries available to the curious drinker. Let us send some exciting new flavours your way and we’ll prove the theory that there is a cider for everyone!
At this event you will have the chance to meet the cider makers themselves and get an insight into how they work their magic. Allen Hogan of Hogan’s Cider (one of Font’s favourite ranges) will be joined by Dave and Fiona Matthews of Bartestree Cider (author of CAMRA’s Good Cider Guide 2000), Chris Hewitt of our local Dunham Press cider and Tom & Lydia from Artistaw cider.
The Font have teamed up with The Cat in the Glass who have put together a cracking selection of ciders for you to enjoy. Whether you are new to cider or an apple aficionado, there’s something here for you!
We’ll be sampling a range of styles and flavours to give you a real sense of the huge range that today’s cider and perry makers are producing right now.
From light and lively to warm and wintery; dry and complex to sweet and interesting; fizzy and refreshing to still and mouthwatering – you’ll try an example of them all. We’ll taste four ciders during the event and your pack will include tasting notes for the rest, to enjoy in your own drinking time.
And you can put your questions to the producers to learn more about the best kept secret in beverages – craft cider and perry.
Tickets for this event will be £40 including 12 bottles or cans and your exclusive code to attend the online event. You’ll get free local delivery (within M60 ring road) or it’s £6.95 for UK mainland courier delivery.
