The Manchester Pubs Matter Festival will have five sessions – each event hosted in a different virtual pub.
Just like the pubs themselves, each offers something different – see below and follow the links for more information on the pubs and the events they have planned.
The Marble Arch
Marble Arch After Hours
Wednesday 17th February (from 7pm)
The Marble Arch and Marble Brewery invites you to The Marble Arch After Dark.
Marble’s head brewer Joseph Ince will be on hand for a tasting of the brand new Marble beer included in your box. He’ll be joined by Wander Beyond head Dan de Becheval who will have two new beers in your box.
We’ll then join Marble director Jan Rogers and Customer QA lead Mars Pascale to take a look at what the post Covid future may look like for the pubs and breweries we love.
Your pack of twelve beers will ten cans from Marble’s core and specials range and two from Wander Beyond including three new beers.
Wigan Central
Hop, Twist and a Julie
Thursday 18th February (from 7pm)
Wigan Central manager Jo has invited her brewer friends from Hophurst, Twisted Wheel and Neptune breweries to Quiz Night at her virtual pub.
Jo will be your quizmaster and the theme for tonight’s quiz will, of course, be beer. Expect a picture round, anagrams and more.
Your pack of twelve beers will include beers from all three breweries and between rounds of the quiz, Jo and the brewers will talk you through tasting a selection of them.
The Petersgate Tap
Welcome To The Dark Side
Friday 19th February (from 7pm)
The Petersgate Tap (in association with Thirst Class Ale) invite you to their virtual pub for a special tasting evening focusing on stouts, porters and black IPAs.
Your box of beers will contain seven in dark styles – six of which will be tasted during the event hosted by local expert and pub regular John Clarke. Topping up the box of twelve will be five pale beers in various styles.
Six beers will be from Stockport’s Thirst Class Ale whose head brewer and owner Richard will be on hand at the online event.

The Joy and Diversity of Cider and Perry
Saturday 20th February (from 1pm)
The Font in association with The Cat In The Glass present an introduction to the joy and diversity of modern and traditional ciders and perries.
Nicky from Cat In The Glass will be joined by Alan Hogan of Hogan’s Cider , Dave Matthews of Bartestree Cider and Chris Hewitt of our local Dunham Press cider to lead you through a tasting of four fine ciders from the box of twelve ciders and perries that they have compiled for the festival.
The Smithfield Tavern
The Smithfield Sessions
Saturday 20th February (from 7pm)
Join us virtually in The Smithfield where the Blackjack Brewtap DJs will be taking over for the evening.
The evening will feature live sets from Chris Maude and Fritz. In between the sets there will be an exclusive video tour of Blackjack Brewery’s new brewing facility from head brewer Kieran Johnson plus more video content.
Your box will include seven beers from Blackjack, plus two beers each from guests Runaway and Pictish Brewing, plus a Blackjack goblet glass to drink them from – for the true Smithfield experience.
