Want to know more – read on…..

The Manchester Beer and Cider Festival is managed and staffed by volunteers from CAMRA (with assistance from a small number of brewery staff).

The festival is often cited as an example of how to run a modern festival and we are proud of how we have taken the event forward, but we are seeking new people with specific skills to join the organising team and take the festival forward to the next level – click here for details.

Volunteering at CAMRA festivals is great fun and most volunteers come back time and time again, often building strong friendships with their co-volunteers. Although we have many long-standing volunteers in Manchester and many who travel from further afield, new volunteers are always required. Whether you are an existing CAMRA member or a beer lover whose yet to join, if you can spare anything from a couple of hours to the whole week, we’d love to have you along.

Full training and support will be given and there are also a few perks – free beer and cider, food, a free t-shirt, discounts and an invite to the volunteers party (with more free beer).

The main set up for the festival starts on Sunday 19th January and continues through until the afternoon of Wednesday 22nd. The festival is open to the licensed trade and CAMRA members only on Wednesday evening then open to the public from Thursday until Saturday. Take down starts when the festival closes at 7pm on Saturday 25th and continues through until end of Sunday 26th (with a small team on site on Monday 27th for cask collections).

There are a variety of jobs to be done from the start of set up to the end of take down – more than the obvious serving beer and cider or selling bottled beers. From glasses to pub games to stewarding, we have roles to suit most people and can accommodate most conditions. The festival could utilise your existing talents or you could learn a new skill which you can then use elsewhere.

To find out more about the different ways to volunteer, please click here.

If you know what roles you want to fill, click here to go direct to the volunteer form.

To volunteer to help at Manchester Beer & Cider Festival 2020, please download a volunteering form below and return to volunteer (at) mancbeerfest.uk. Alternatively complete our online form by clicking here.

      Thanks to you

Thanks to all 14,402 who came to MBCF20, supped our beers and ciders and (we trust) enjoyed yourselves at the North’s biggest festival.

We doubled the size of our Beers from the Wood bar, laying our hands on every wooden cask we could find. Despite this, you conspired to drink the bar dry on Saturday afternoon. Unlike the other 24 bars in the festival, we can’t simply have a reserve stock to replenish if demand exceeds supply. Perhaps we’ll hide that bar in a dark corner next time…

The number of repeat visitors – we know, thanks to those of you who completed our three-question survey while voting for your favourites – suggests we get most things right. But as organisers we commit to reviewing each part of the festival. No event flourishes by saying “but we’ve always done it this way.”

Several of our team are standing down – to be confident of putting on the festival next year, we’re going to need new people (with new ideas) to join us and shape the future of MBCF. Learn more about joining the team here.
